The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof.  Johnson Nyarko Boampong, has signed the condolence register for eight persons who perished in the helicopter crash at Adansi-Brofoyedu, near Akrofuom, in the Adansi Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region.

A Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter carrying eight people went missing after taking off from Accra on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

On board were three crew members and five passengers, namely the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; the Minister of Environment, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; the Ag. Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna; the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Sarpong and a former Parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye.

The rest are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manean Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The Vice-Chancellor signed the condolence book at the Conference Room of the Central Regional Coordinating Council in Cape Coast.

Prof. Boampong, in his message, extended the condolences of the University to the President, the government, bereaved families, and the entire nation on the unfortunate helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians.

“I write on behalf of Council, management, staff, and students of the University of Cape Coast to express our deepest condolences to the President and the people of Ghana, especially the family members of our departed brethren.”

“The University will never forget the dedication and patriotism the eight people have exhibited. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace,” he wrote.

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Aheto; Registrar, Mr. Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye; the Ag. Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Kwabena Antwi Konadu and the head of University Relations, Mr. Felix Adu-Poku.
