The University Teachers Association (UTAG), UCC Chapter, has presented a cheque for GH ¢10,000 to the University of Cape Coast Hospital to support the fight against COVID-19.

Presentation

Presenting the cheque, the President of UTAG-UCC, Dr. Samuel Bert Boadi-Kusi said the donation was to support the effort being made by the Hospital to contain the pandemic. He said the money was to assist the Hospital to purchase additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for staff. He noted that the Association was concerned about the health and safety of staff at the Hospital and therefore, saw the need to assist in that regard. “We have closely monitored situations at the Hospital since the pandemic was reported in the country and I must add that we are concerned about the staff members who are frontline workers,” he added.

In terms of the University’s preparedness, Dr. Boadi-Kusi called on the University Health Services to engage Management to come out with a policy to guide all staff in the discharge of their duties. “We have partially resumed from the break and staff members need to know the protocols to follow when going about their activities especially whilst engaging with clients” he noted.

Response

He said though, the Hospital had some PPEs, there was the need to get additional stocks considering the fact that they could not be recycled.

Dr. Ekanem noted that the fight against COVID-19 was a collective one and therefore, called on individuals, organisations to join forces to overcome the pandemic. He assured that Management together with the University Health Services had put in place some strategies to ensure that staff members were protected from COVID-19. “We will constantly sensitise the University community on protocols to observe in order to prevent them from being infected by the virus,” he explained.
