The Head of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Security Section, Col. (Rtd) Joseph K. Baah- Tsiquaye, has urged Security Personnel on campus to strive to be disciplined in their duties at all times.
He said professional discipline was crucial and it was important for campus Security officers to maintain it to achieve professional success.
Col. (Rtd) Baah- Tsiquaye, who spoke on the topic: " Professional Conduct," was speaking at a three-day training workshop for campus Security officials at the Smart Room of the New Lecture Theatre.
The training was organised by the Directorate of Consular and General Services with support from the Training and Development Section of the Directorate of Human Resource.
Continuing, he said, their training should be a constant reminder to them that they were always accountable to the public they serve on campus. “You need to exhibit honesty, integrity, respect, competence, among other virtues. In so doing you portray professionalism, dedication, effectiveness and efficiency at all times”, he added.
He, therefore, charged the security personnel to be agents of change and strive to uplift the image of the Security Section through their good conduct.
That, he added, would increase public confidence and ensure coherent partnership with their various stakeholders.
The Security Head bemoaned the unprofessional conducts exhibited by some personnel in the Section and advised them to desist from acts of indiscipline that impugn the image of the Section.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public in ensuring a safe and orderly campus.
Speaking on the topic: " Customer Service," the Head of Operations at the Security Section, Mr. Kofi Annan, urged personnel to improve their relationship with all stakeholders on campus.
He said that approach would go a long way to enhance the mutual relationship between security officers and members of the public.
Mr. Annan urged participants to take advantage of the workshop to adopt new skills, knowledge and attitudes to improve the level of customer service on campus.
He further encouraged personnel to act professionally to avoid denting the image of the Security Section.
Addressing participants on the topic: " Customer Relations", a Principal Security Officer at the Section, Ms. Emelia Tampuri, charged personnel to provide good customer care to their clients.
She said that good customer care and other factors held the key to attracting and retaining customers.
Mrs. Tampuri also commended them for the hard work and commitment they have shown over the years.
For her part, a Principal Security Officer, Mrs. Joana Obeng Nyarko, who took the participants through “Effective Communication,” also advised Security men to put into practice the lessons acquired at the training.
