The University of Cape Coast, UCC, has held a matriculation ceremony to officially admit one thousand, five hundred and sixty-nine (1,569) students to pursue various undergraduate and post-graduate sandwich programmes.The matriculants comprised nine hundred and seventy-nine (979) post graduate students and five hundred and ninety (590) undergraduate students who would pursue programmes at the College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, College of Humanities and Legal Studies, College of Health and Allied Sciences and the College of Education Studies.

Addressing the matriculants, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, congratulated the students on their admission and charged them to work hard to merit the various certificates that would be earned at the end of their respective programmes.

He noted that being bonafide junior members of UCC, the students were guaranteed the rights and privileges of studentship, having subscribed to the oath of allegiance of the University.

Consequently, he enjoined the students to abide by all the rules and regulations of the University as enshrined in the Students’ Handbook and other authorized documents of the University and required them to be of good behaviour while pursuing their studies.

Prof. Boampong urged the students to tolerate one another and live peacefully among themselves, reminding them not to infringe on the rights and privileges of others.

“You must also ensure you do not trample on the rights, privileges and freedom of others,” he counselled.

He said the University was highly reputed globally and called on the students to tap into the knowledge of experienced faculty at UCC to facilitate their studies.

The Vice-Chancellor cautioned the fresh students to conduct themselves properly during all examinations and avoid cheating.

“If you learn hard, the urge to engage in examination malpractice will not be there” he advised.

Prof. Boampong counseled the students to set for themselves high academic and ethical values bearing in mind that their admission had been based on merit, considering the strict processes authorities went through to select them.

He urged the students to shun anti-social behaviours such as occultism, hooliganism, prostitution and use of narcotic drugs.

The Vice-Chancellor, therefore, advised them to study diligently towards achieving excellence.

Prof. Boampong appealed to students to observe road traffic regulations on campus and asked them to be security conscious in their endeavours.

He reiterated his call on students to observe the Covid -19 safety protocols and explained that not making the wearing of face masks mandatory did not mean the safety protocols were no longer necessary.

As part of the programme, all the matriculants were taken through the matriculation oath administered by the Registrar, Mr. Jeff Teye Emmanuel Onyame, to signify their formal admission into UCC.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Students and Dean of Graduate Studies who presented the students to be matriculated, Provosts, Directors, Chairman of Convocation and other members of Faculty.
