UCC Internal Audit Staff Undergo in-Service Training to Enhance Audit Effectiveness

Staff of the Directorate of Internal Audit in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have undergone a three-day in-service training to deepen skills and enhance their work.

The Directorate of Internal Audit organised the training in collaboration with the Training and Development Section of the Directorate of Human Resources, UCC.

Participants were taken through topics such as Auditing Effectiveness, Efficiency, and Economy; Review of the Directorate's 2025 Activities; Auditing Research Grants and Projects; and Effective Performance of Internal Audit Services. Other topics included Effective Meeting Procedures and Documentation, Healthy Living, Drugs and Self-Medication, and Minor and Low-Value Procurement, among others.

The Acting Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Samuel Kwame Anyan, speaking at the opening of the ceremony, encouraged Internal Auditors to be committed to the discharge of their responsibilities. He added that internal auditors are to audit the ‘efficiency, effectiveness, and economy’ of governance, risk management, and internal controls to support the University in achieving its goals.

He said the relevance of the chosen topics for the training was laudable in light of dwindling government subventions and resources.

Mr. Anyan called on participants to continue to use persuasive skills to achieve efficiency in auditing.

The Acting Director assured the participants of the University Management's commitment to empowering Internal Auditors as a vital pillar of public management reform.

He urged participants to implement the knowledge they would acquire to make a positive impact on sound financial management in the University.

He said “the knowledge acquired will go a long way to ensure that participants work to realise the goals of the Directorate, leading to the achievement of the overall objectives of the University”.

Other facilitators included Mr. Alfred Ghartey; Mr. Samuel Baidoo; Mr. Isaac Abban; Dr. Nicholas Ampofo; and Dr. James Kojo Prah.
