The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K.T Oduro, has assured students of colleges of education in the country that certificates awarded by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) are internationally recognized.

“No student can obtain UCC Certificate without meeting the minimum academic standards set by the Academic Board of the University,” he explained.

Prof. Oduro was speaking at the 7th Congregation of the John Bosco’s College of Education at Navrongo in the Upper East Region, where 512 Untrained Teachers Diploma in Basic Education (UTDBE) students graduated with Diploma in Basic Education certificates.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor urged the graduands to be good ambassadors and torch bearers of their alma mater.

He congratulated the graduands and asked them to accept postings to rural areas to help bring transformation into teaching in schools.

In his welcome address, the Principal of the College, Mr. William Anamoo Atindana, thanked management of the University for supporting the College.

Mr. Atindana said the College had the capacity to function as a model college for the rest of the colleges of education in the three regions of the north.

However, he noted that it was currently not living up to that expectation due to certain challenges.

Consequently, he called on the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to help address challenges facing the College such as erratic water supply and inadequate students’ hostel.

 Mr. Atindana appealed to authorities of the University to consider making the College a center for the 2017 Sandwich programme.

 The Principal urged the graduands to use the knowledge acquired at the College to serve humanity wherever they found themselves so as to raise the image of the College.

 Rev. Fr. Gabriel Aidoo, who represented the Chairman of the College’s Governing Council; Mr. Alfred Ndago, the former Principal of the College and Mr. Nasir Entsie, an Assistant Registrar at the Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s office, were among the dignitaries present at the graduation ceremony.

 The Pro-Vice-Chancellor also took advantage of the visit in the Upper East Region to inspect the progress of work of the College of Distance Education Regional Study Centre project, which is under construction at Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga  Municipal District.

  Prof. Oduro urged the project manager to accelerate the pace of work to enable the University use the facility  to enhance teaching and learning next academic year.
