The University of Cape Coast branch of the Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) has elected new executives to steer the affairs of the Union for the next four years. 

 Mr. Benjamin Mensah-Gorman, who was elected Chairman, left his challengers far behind with a massive 531 votes. His closest challenger, Patrick Essuah, registered 330 votes, with Eric Jonathan Fanyinkah, highly tipped to impress, in a distant third with 140 votes and Joseph Kofi Mensah polled 133 votes placing fourth. 

 For the Vice-Chairmanship position, which had four contenders, Mr. Philip Kaaku, emerged winner with 473 votes, Mr. Richard Ofori polled 378, Isaac Jonah Baidoo and Mawuli Agboadah garnered 155 votes and 127 votes respectively. 

 The Secretary portfolio saw Mr. Benjamin Frank Hagan coming out victorious with 533 votes; Mr. Lambert Dogyiire had 427 and Alfred Donkor garnering 164 votes. 

 For the Assistant Secretary position, which had the greatest number of contestants of seven (7), Mr. Mahama Ahmed polled 241 votes to emerge winner.

 The others, Mrs Lydia Baffoe got 201 votes, Messrs Frank Yorke, Francis Godfred Eshun, Evans Adu-Arhin, Richard Kwofie, Philip Arthur and Thomas Quainoo polled 156, 146, 133, 112, 081 and 061 votes, respectively. 

 Mr. Joseph Francis Ackon becomes the Trustee with 685 votes, beating Samuel Kpieleku who had 422 votes. 

 There was spontaneous joy and celebration at the Old Academic Board Chamber when the results of the elections were declared.

 The Returning Officer for the elections, Major (rtd) Kofi Baah Bentum, on behalf of Management of the University, commended the aspirants and their supporters for comporting themselves and applauded the election officers for demonstrating professionalism during the exercise. 

 For his part, the TEWU Chairman elect, Mr. Benjamin Mensah-Gorman, speaking to reporters shortly after the elections, thanked members of the Union for the confidence reposed in him and the other executives. He promised they would serve them in truth and faith.

 The election was conducted and supervised by the staff of the Directorate of Public Affairs and supported by the Directorate of Human Resource.
