SSA-UoG National Leadership Transferred to UCC

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has hosted the National Executive Council Conference of the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), with the induction of new national officers to steer affairs of the Association.

The conference also marked the formal transfer of the Association’s national leadership from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to University of Cape Coast (UCC).

Delivering his handing-over address, the outgoing National Chairman, Mr. George Ansong, reflected on his tenure, noting that his administration prioritised building trust and unity within the Association.

“Our foremost task when we assumed office was to restore confidence in the Association and bring our members together under a shared vision,” he stated. “Through dialogue, transparency and inclusiveness, we were able to reduce tensions and reposition the Association as a united and formidable body.”

Mr. Ansong outlined key achievements during his tenure, including securing government approval for technical allowances and the resolution of Tier 2 pension arrears.

“These gains did not come easily. They were the result of persistent engagement with key stakeholders and a collective commitment to improving the welfare of our members,” he noted.

He further indicated that his administration undertook a comprehensive review of the Association’s Constitution to ensure it remained relevant and legally robust.

“We recognised the need to align our Constitution with current realities and legal standards, and I am proud that we have laid that foundation for future leadership,” he added.

While expressing satisfaction with the progress made, Mr. Ansong acknowledged that some critical objectives remained unfulfilled.

“The completion of the Unified Conditions of Service is one major task we could not fully accomplish,” he admitted. “I urge the incoming leadership to prioritise this and build on the progress we have made.”

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected National Chairman, Mr. Christopher Aggrey, pledged to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor. He assured members of his commitment to advancing the welfare and dignity of senior staff across public universities.

“We will take the Association to greater dimensions by strengthening advocacy, engaging strategically with stakeholders, and positioning ourselves to influence national policy. It is time we make ourselves more relevant by contributing meaningfully to national development,” he said.

The new executives were sworn into office by the Registrar of UCC, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq. who charged them to uphold integrity, transparency, and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
