SSA-UoG National Executives Call on UCC Acting Vice-Chancellor

The National Executives of the Senior Staff Association of Ghana (SSA-UoG) have called on the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto at his office.

The visit formed part of a three-day National Executive Council conference being hosted by UCC, bringing together key leaders of the Association to deliberate on issues affecting senior staff and handover ceremony of the association.

Introducing the delegation, Chairman of SSA-UCC, Christopher Aggrey, explained that the engagement was to formally present the national executives to the University’s management. He noted that while the national leadership of the Association was currently held by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), it would be handed over to UCC during the conference.

Mr. Aggrey expressed appreciation to the Acting Vice-Chancellor for granting the delegation the opportunity to interact with management.

Welcoming the team, Prof. Aheto commended senior staff for their indispensable role in the effective administration of public universities.

“I have observed that senior staff are deeply committed to their duties and undertake the bulk of the administrative and technical work in our universities,” he stated.

He, however, stressed the need for improved conditions of service for senior staff to match their contributions to institutional and national development.

Prof. Aheto assured the delegation of Management’s commitment to championing the welfare of senior staff and advocating for their concerns at relevant national platforms.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor further expressed optimism about UCC assuming the national leadership of the Association and urged both outgoing and incoming executives to collaborate effectively to ensure a smooth transition and successful tenure.

The Registrar, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq. also acknowledged the critical contributions of senior staff, noting his personal experience of rising to become a senior member and then becoming Registrar. He called for unity among the executives and encouraged members to remain dedicated to their responsibilities.

Speaking on behalf of the national executives, the National Chairman of SSA-Ghana, Mr. George Ansong, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to supporting quality tertiary education in Ghana. He stressed the need for government and university managements to provide adequate motivation and a conducive working environment for senior staff.

Mr. Ansong noted that UCC and KNUST were founding members of SSA-Ghana and expressed confidence in the ability of the UCC executives to effectively take up the national mandate.

He further underscored the importance of dialogue and relationship-building in advancing the Association’s demands, urging the incoming executives to engage constructively with government and relevant stakeholders to address outstanding concerns of members.
