The Sports Section has held the 21st Inter-Hall Cross Country competition to hunt for quality talents for the upcoming Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) games, which will take place at the University for Development Studies, Tamale.

The keenly contested competition, organised under the International Association of Athletics Federation's(IAAF) rules, saw athletes from the Kwame Nkrumah Hall (KNH), Atlantic Hall (ATL), Oguaa Hall, Adehye Hall, Valco Hall and Casely Hayford (Casford) Hall.

After the 10km distance marathon race, Oguaa Hall emerged winners with 54 points. KNH had 67 points to place second, whilst Valco Hall and Adehye Hall bagged 103 and 105 points to secure the third and fourth positions respectively in the women category.

In the men category, which saw a massive turnout, KNH Hall was declared winners with 47 points, whilst Valco had 66 points to place second. ATL Hall secured 123 points to get the third position, with Casford Hall and Oguaa Hall getting 129 and 168 points to place 4th and 5th positions respectively.

Sarah Owusu, from Oguaa Hall, was adjudged the best female athlete, whilst Malik Yakubu, a Casford Hall athlete, was crowned the best male athlete. Other Winners, including halls of residence of the various categories were given cash prizes.

Closing the ceremony held at the Casford field, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof Koawo Edjah, commended the athletes for their good sportsmanship. He advised them to train very hard in order to defend their titles in the forthcoming GUSA Cross Country in Tamale in November 2016.

The Chairman of the Sports and Recreation Committee, Dr. Charles Domfeh, congratulated the athletes on their hard work and urged them to take their training seriously. He encouraged athletes who were not named in the squad that would represent the University in Tamale not to lose hope, indicating that they could be called at any time to replace their colleagues for any unforeseen circumstances.

Mr. Adu Gyamfi, a Convocation representative on the Sports and Recreation Committee; Mr. Daniel Okyere, and other high-level officials graced the occasion.
