The Sam Jonah Library in conjunction with the Ghana Library Association has organised reading clinic for two basic schools in Akotokyir, a surrounding community within the University.

The exercise is aimed at inculcating the habit of reading and accessing the libraries in the school children.The beneficiary schools were St. Anthony Anglican Basic School and Tuwohofo Basic School.

As part of the reading clinic, staff of the Sam Jonah Library donated assorted books to the beneficiary schools.

Addressing the pupils of Tuwohofo Basic School, the Deputy Librarian, Mrs. Paulina Afful- Arthur, underscored the need for school children to cultivate the habit of reading books. That, she indicated, among others, would help them to expand their knowledge. She urged the pupils to take good care of the books so as to prolong its lifespan. The Deputy Librarian announced that the Sam Jonah Library would organise Spelling Bee Competition in November for basic schools within the surrounding communities in the University to press home the need for school children to take reading seriously.

Receiving the items, the Headmaster of Tuwohofo Basic, Mr. Atta Baidoo, on behalf of the school, expressed gratitude to the staff of the Sam Jonah Library for the kind gesture. He noted that the books would help the school inculcate the habit of reading in the school children in order for them to expand their vocabulary.

At St. Anthony Anglican Basic School, the staff of the Sam Jonah Library, led by Mr. William Baidoo, urged the pupils to read books to broaden their horizon. He called on the school children to take proper care of the books. For his part, a tutor at the St. Anglican Basic School, Mr. Cosmos Nutakor, on behalf of the school, praised the staff of Sam Jonah Library for the donation. He stressed that the teachers in the school would do their level best to inculcate the habit of reading into the school children. He promised the donors that the books would be in the proper custody of the school.

Later, the jubilant pupils interacted with the staff of the Sam Jonah Library.
