Professor Joseph Ghartey Ampiah has officially taken over as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Cape Coast at a short but symbolic ceremony which was organised at the University on 30th September, 2016.

The former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. D. Kuupole, whose term of office started in October 1, 2012 ended officially on Friday, 30th September, 2016.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Kuupole thanked the University Council, Management and the entire community for the support they provided him during his term of office. He noted that he had gathered a lot of rich experience as Vice-Chancellor despite the challenges he occasionally encountered.

Prof. Kuupole advised the new Vice-Chancellor to stay focused, be vigilant, firm and dedicated to the task which the University Council had bestowed on him. He entreated him to be a team player but cautioned him that “this office can sometimes be lonely, overcrowded, noisy and even confusing but in all these you need to live up to expectation”.

The former Vice-Chancellor assured Prof. Ampiah of his readiness to support whenever he was called upon to offer any service to the University. He  also appealed to members of the University Community to cooperate with Prof. Ampiah and his management to achieve the vision and mission of the University of Cape Coast. He congratulated and wished Prof. Ampiah well as he assumes leadership of the University for the next four years.

Responding, Prof. Ampiah gave the assurance that he would build on the successes of his predecessor, Prof. Kuupole to ensure that the University maintained its status as the University of Competitive Choice. He called for cooperation from all members of the University Community to help build the University to a higher height. He pointed out that he would ensure that the Statute of the University was applied to the letter. “The University Statute is what provides guidance in any decision that is taken in the University and therefore, everything we do must conform to the Statute,” he added.

It would be recalled that Prof. Ampiah was appointed by the University Council on 30th July, 2016 as Vice-Chancellor of the University effective October 1, 2016.

Prof. Ampiah until his appointment as Vice-Chancellor was the Provost of the College of Education Studies. He would be inducted into office at a ceremony on October 22, 2016.

Present at the ceremony was the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George K. T. Oduro who chaired the function; the Registrar, Mr. John Kofi Nyan, some Provosts, Deans and Directors.
