A visiting Professor at the History Department, Prof. Edmund Abaka, has donated assorted History books and magazines to the Department of History under the College of Humanities and Legal Studies. Prof. Abaka, who is also an associate Professor of History and International Studies, University of Miami, USA, said the gesture was in recognition of the good work the Department was doing and also in appreciation of long-serving lecturers like Dr. Boadi Siaw and others for their continuous support for the Department.
The visiting Professor added that the donation would supplement the books of students studying history. Prof. Abaka announced that he was considering instituting awards scheme for the best thesis and Ph.D Dissertation every academic year which could be named after illustrious lecturers who had contributed significantly to the Department.
For his part, the Head of the History Department, Prof. Kwame Osei Kwarteng, who received the items on behalf of the Department, commended Prof. Abaka for the kind gesture. Prof Kwarteng, said the gift would significantly help improve teaching and learning at the Department. He added that Prof Abaka had been a blessing to the Department, the Faculty, the College in particular and the University at large.
Prof Kwarteng stressed that the University, through Prof Abaka, had had fruitful working relationship with the Cultural Affairs Section of the American Embassy. He promised that the books and magazines would be put to good use. Present at the ceremony were Dr. Boadi Siaw, Mr. Augustine Duah and a section of the Graduate Students of the Department.
