Executives of the Senior Staff Association- Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), University of Cape Coast chapter have paid a courtesy call on the Pro Vice- Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs) Rosemond Boohene.
The visit was to formally welcome Prof. Boohene upon her assumption of the office of Pro Vice-Chancellor. Mr. Sandy Kumi-Sinatra, Chairman of the association who led the group mentioned the need to enhance the relationship between the SSA-UoG and management of the University to maintain a favourable atmosphere for academic excellence.
Putting some concerns of the association before the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Kumi-Sinatra lamented the undue delays members of the association suffer with regards to promotions. He also suggested a move from the over dependence on certificates for promotions and appealed that on the job experience should equally be considered as sufficient grounds for promotion.
On accommodation, the SSA-UoG Chairman bemoaned the scarce residential facilities for members and appealed to management through the Pro VC for support in that regard.
Responding to the concerns, Prof. Boohene assured the executives that issues regarding delays in promotion of members will be given the needed attention. On accommodation, she reiterated the need for management and the leadership of the association to work in unison and fashion out strategies that would holistically address the challenge. One possible means, she suggested, was that leadership should engage the services of banks to support members with loan facilities to develop their personal structures on parcels of land acquired for members through the ingenuity of the executives.
Prof. Boohene also encouraged the executives to support their members pursue capacity building programmes to boost their capabilities. She echoed the essence of entrepreneurship in improving the lot of members.
The Pro VC was grateful for the visit and assured the delegation of her preparedness to work cordially with them.
