Participants in the just-ended two-day Research Training Workshop on R Programming have been urged to impart the knowledge and skills acquired to contribute to research excellence in the country.

The workshop, organised by the Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG), University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch in collaboration with the Centre for Data Analysis, Management, Archiving and Advocacy (CDAMAA), provided participants with practical knowledge in data analysis, equipping them with skills essential for research and academic pursuits.

Addressing participants, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Data Science and Economic Policy at the School of Economics,Dr. Joshua Sebu, called on graduate students to harness the power of data science and analytics to unlock new frontiers of innovation and drive sustainable growth.

He said Data Science was not merely a buzzword, but a discipline that empowered them to extract meaningful patterns and trends from vast volumes of data and indicated that, it would equip them with the tools and techniques to delve deep into the intricacies of information, and uncovering hidden gems that could drive innovation and growth.

According to him, in this era of technological advancement, data had become the lifeblood of businesses and organizations across the globe, and it held the power to unlock invaluable insights, drive informed decisions-making and fuel transformative change.

Dr Sebu said the training would help close the skills gap, where graduate students face significant skills gaps in data science and analytics.

For his part, the President of GRASAG-UCC, Mr. Robert Ipiin Gnankob,  admonished the students to take the training seriously to advance their data analysis skills.

He emphasized the fact that data analytics was no longer the future but the present.

Mr. Gnankob was optimistic that the workshop would build the students’ expertise in analytical tools and independent problem-solving.

The President encouraged the trainees to be problem-solvers and change makers to impact society positively.

David Osei, a participant, said: “This workshop has opened my eyes to the vast opportunities that Data Science and Analytics offers in postgraduate research. This knowledge will definitely help me stay ahead in a competitive academic environment.”
