A seven-member executive of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has been sworn in to serve a two-year term by a former president of the association, Mr. Ebenezer Aggrey.
At the same ceremony, senators representing the various constituencies of the association in the University were also sworn into office.
Addressing the executives, the Acting Director, Directorate of Consular, Legal and General Services, Mrs. Alberta Yaa Graham, congratulated them and reminded them of the apathy within the association and, therefore, should be very patient with members as they discharged their duties. “We all know about the apathy in the system, so it means you have a lot of work to do. When we call for meeting, we all know, yes, I know you have always been patient with us, but I will implore you to be extra patient with us”, she said.
Mrs. Graham reminded the executives to be mindful of confidentiality and ensure that matters that needed to be kept confidential or remain as such. “You have sworn an oath, but I have noticed that confidentiality has broken down in the University, you go for a meeting, but before the meeting is ended, whatever you discussed at the meeting will be out there. You have all sworn an oath, so whatever is discussed stays here, though there are other issues that should go out, there are others also that have to be within the group”, she added.
Touching on team work, Mrs. Graham said “without team work, we cannot do it, I will not want a situation where the president will say this and then vice will that, we should all come to a consensus whenever we want to make a decision. When you do that it will help those of us outside, because when we see you as one, when you talk like one, then those of us in the background will accept whatever you bring to us”, she admonished. She congratulated the president and urged him to continue to do the good work and assured of their readiness to support the team anytime they were called upon to do so. “In the University structure as you said, we have all the directors but whatever decision you take it binds all members of the association, so there are situations that you have to consult, we are around to assist the association in whatever capacity we can”.
“You can’t do it alone there are times you have to deal with the government, contend with Fair Wages and others but as I said if we are one, we can achieve whatever target we set for ourselves”, she concluded.
The Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu in his remarks, reiterated that there was apathy among members and called on the team to work hard to improve on that. He reminded them that, the work was sacrificial and, therefore, called on all to show commitment on their part to work for the association. “No one pays you for the work you do, but with endurance, tolerance, and kindness you can do it”, he said.
President of the association, Kwabena Antwi-Konadu pledged the readiness of the team to work and called for the support of all stakeholders.
