The Ghana Association of University Administrators, UCC Chapter, has supported the University Hospital with an amount of ¢5, 000 to procure Personal Protective Equipment for its staff in the wake of COVID-19.
President of GAUA-UCC
In his remarks, the President of the Association, Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, commended management and staff of the University Health Services (UHS) for the precautionary measures they had put in place to protect staff as well as clients who visit their facility. Mr. Antwi-Konadu also thanked Management of the University for implementing strategies to ensure that members of the University community were safe from the pandemic. He said the donation was the Association’s contribution to the Hospital since most of its staff were at very high risk.
The President of GAUA-UCC announced that the Association had procured 1,000 pieces of face masks for distribution to its members since their welfare was of paramount interest. “We intend to give some of the masks to members of management to demonstrate that we are in this condition together. We are doing this with the hope that Management will also consider providing every staff with these basic protective gear to protect themselves from the virus,” he noted.
Appreciation
The Director of UHS, Dr. Evans Ekanem, thanked GAUA for the gesture and assured that the money would be used to serve its purpose. He noted that the Directorate was doing a lot to ensure that its staff members were fully protected adding that “they are also confident that they are being protected” we know that this pandemic will soon come to a close”. He noted that the Hospital had been involved in several meetings and training programmes from the district to the national levels. “COVID-19 is a team business and it is not a one-man show or a hospital‘s show,” he explained.
