Directorate of Human Resources Holds Maiden “time with HR” Initiative

The Directorate of Human Resources of the University of Cape Coast has held the first edition of its staff engagement initiative dubbed “Time with HR.”

The programme was initiated to build stronger connections between HR and staff through open dialogue, shared information, and collaboration.

Opening the engagement, the Registrar, Mr. Enoch Abbeyquaye, thanked staff for their dedication to the University’s progress. He described the engagement as an opportunity not only to share information but also to listen and strengthen relationships.

He reminded participants that HR was fundamentally about people and stressed the importance of staff contributions in teaching, research, administration, and support services.

He encouraged open and constructive dialogue and set a positive tone for the session.

For his part, the Director of Human Resources, Mr. Isaac Adom Konadu, explained that effective HR practice depends on listening and active engagement rather than one-way communication.

He emphasized that staff development and empowerment were essential for the University to thrive in the changing landscape of higher education and urged participants to fully engage in the discussions.

Facilitators of the event included the Head of Senior Members Section, Mr. Nasir Yaqub Entsie, who outlined the vision, mission, and goals of his section, presented workforce statistics, and explained key activities, policies, challenges, and successes.

His presentation gave staff a clearer understanding of HR operations and expectations.

Mrs. Gifty Enyonam Kodzi, Head of the Welfare Section, spoke about the welfare mandate, stressing the importance of staff wellbeing and creating a comfortable work environment.

The head of the Training and Development Section, Mr. Robert Appiah, took participants through how staff could apply for study leave with or without pay, among other pertinent issues.

The session concluded with an open forum where staff were invited to ask questions, share concerns, and offer suggestions.
