A nine-member delegation from the Denkyira Traditional Council has called on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, to discuss collaboration between UCC and the Denkyira Kingdom.

The delegation was made up of the Denkyira Gyaasehene, Nana Barimah Siaw Panin II;   Chief of Jukwa Mbem, Nana Sebe Agyemang ; Nana Kwesi Annan of Jukwa ; Obaapanyin of Meretwiso, Obaapanyin Akosua Agyeiwaa I, and Madam Naomi Amponsah.

Others were representatives of the Denkyira Development Association, including Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, Dominic Kofi Konadu and Richard Kwadwo Nyarko.

The leader of the delegation, Nana Dr. Ntobonkyi III, said the visit was aimed at establishing strong collaboration with the University in the areas of extending the scope of distance education to the Denkyira Kingdom, capacity building for traditional leaders and opportunities for youth to enrol in various programmes of the University. “We also part of the Central Region so our visit is to discuss ways the Denkyira Kingdom and UCC can collaborate so that our people, especially the youth can also benefit from quality education at UCC,” he noted.

Nana Dr. Ntobokyi III commended the University for making strides in producing highly capable human resource for the development of the nation. “In this regard, we appeal that you extend this service to benefit the people of Denkyira,” he requested.

Responding, Prof. Ampiah said the University was open for partnerships that would contribute to the development of the nation.  He said the University had asked two lecturers; Dr. Michael Boakye-Yiadom of the Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) and Dr. Abigail Opoku-Mensah of the School of Business to liaise with them to develop a proposal for consideration by Management of the University.

Present at the meeting was the Registrar, Mr. John Kofi Nyan.
