The 2006 Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) alumni group of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has presented a cheque for GHS6,000 to the University.
The kind gesture, according to the President of the BCom 2006 Year Group, Mr. Asare Okae-Anti, was in support of the UCC@60 anniversary, which was marked in October 2022.
He explained that the Group had the welfare of the University at heart, hence the donation and further gave assurance that they would work hard to assist the University in other areas.
On behalf of the University, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Rosemond Boohene, received the cheque and thanked the Group for the generosity.
“Indeed, what you have done today is a way of acknowledging what this great University has done in shaping your lives,’’ she stressed.
Prof. Boohene assured the Group that the money would be put to good use and due recognition would be accorded to the Group for its support to the University.
She also urged other alumni year groups to emulate the example.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor appealed to the Group to consider supporting brilliant but needy students in the University through the Students Financial Support Office (StuFSO), indicating that financial difficulty should not be a limiting factor in maintaining such brilliant students in school.
The Head of Institutional Advancement at UCC, Mr. Godwin Kwabena Asante Forkuo, extended appreciation to the Group. He said the presentation was a welcome surprise to the University, and commended the 2006 BCom year group for the assistance.
While expressing hope that the Group would continue to support the University, Mr. Forkuo called on other year groups to come together and lend support to the University.
